Steve works as part of the Digital Health Software Team and is responsible for delivery of a number of  mobile and web-application projects across Cystic Fibrosis, serious mental illness and wearable technology. He has worked in software for 15 years in industry, consulting and now academia. Steves background is rooted in Computer Science and he has recently completed my postgraduate studies to gain an MBA at UoM.

Louisa is a PhD student at The University of Sheffield, supervised by Professor Stephen Walters, Dr Mark Stevenson, Dr Martin Wildman and Professor Madelynne Arden. Her PhD uses machine learning techniques to explore habit formation in medication adherence behaviours. Louisa is using the data acquired from the CFHealthHub full-scale randomised controlled trial to conduct her studies.

Martin Wildman is a Adult CF physician and a Reader in Health services Research at the School for Health and Related Research (ScHARR) University of Sheffield. He was trained in health services research during 4 years at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is interested in developing and implementing complex interventions delivering behaviour change and habit formation in long term conditions. He teaches microsystems as part of the Sheffield Microsystems Coaching academy (MCA).

Behaviour Change Intervention Lead

Madelynne is Professor of Health Psychology and Director of the Centre for Behavioural Science and Applied Psychology (CeBSAP) at Sheffield Hallam University. Her research focuses on using theory and evidence to develop and evaluate behaviour change interventions. Maddy led the development of the CFHH intervention, working to understand what needed to change to enable nebuliser adherence to increase, and how best to support people with CF to make habits for treatment-taking. She trained the interventionists to deliver the CFHH intervention and listened to lots of audio-recordings to make sure that the intervention was being delivered as intended.

Pauline works at the University of Manchester with a fantastic team of research software engineers, designers, project managers and academics developing digital health software for a wide range of health conditions. She’s been driving the technical delivery of CFHealthHub since it began in 2015, trying to reduce the burden of treatment for people with CF and bring to life an international CF learning health system.

Prior to that, he completed a PhD in molecular microbiology and has worked in Project Management roles at contract research organisations. As part of the CFHealthHub team, Jamie monitors recruitment, supports study sites and assists in the development of study materials.

As the study manager for CFHealthHub, Carla is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the CFHealthHub programme. This includes developing and implementing the research, supporting CF centres with implementation and overseeing governance, ethical and regulatory requirements. Carla’s main research interest is in behaviour change and the implementation of evidence based therapy into clinical practice.

Before Marlene became part of the CFHH team in 2015, she worked as a respiratory physiotherapist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals specialising in respiratory medicine and CF. She has worked on this incredible project from the early days, been involved in the development of the content and design alongside a fantastic team and the people with CF who have shaped it. Marlene’s role also involved training and supporting other people to deliver the intervention in the pilot and the full scale RCT, she now leads on CFHealthHub education and training.

National CFHealthHub Quality Improvement Programme Manager

Sophie joined the programme in September 2017 as Local Lead for CFHealthHub at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Her role has been to facilitate a quality improvement programme of work in the Wolfson CF Centre to embed CFHealthHub into clinical practice. Sophie then joined the central team in October 2019, together with Charlotte, to lead on quality improvement across the digital learning health system. Sophie has a background in health psychology and is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at Staffordshire University alongside her roles on the programme.

Robert is a Sheffield-based doctor, specialising in Rheumatology, who joined the CFHealthHub programme in 2021 for a 4-year fellowship and to complete his PhD. He is interested in using CFHealthHub data as part of the NICE CF Quality Indicators and exploring barriers to preventative inhaled treatment adherence experienced by people with CF.

Before joining the CFHealthHub Data Observatory team, India previously completed a BSc in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University and MSc in Health Psychology at the University of Manchester. Throughout her studies, her research interests included health behaviour change and behaviour change interventions. India has had the fantastic opportunity to be involved in the implementation stage of the CFHealthHub project, and her responsibilities include overseeing and assisting with troubleshooting study devices, supporting study sites in project activities, supporting the development of study materials, monitoring study recruitment and engaging in qualitative research in the process evaluation procedures of the study.

Matt Co-Leads the Digital Health Software Team with Pauline Whelan and specialises in the application of mobile technologies to healthcare research. He has over twenty years’ software development, project and programme management experience. Prior to joining academia, Matt worked for a range of different companies leading the development of software products with a particular focus on smartphones and telecommunications. He is the Co-Investigator and / or software development lead on a number of digital health projects across a range of health domains including dementia, serious mental illness and cancer prevention.

Amanda Bevan

Amanda is a pharmacist who has worked with the paediatric CF team in Southampton for many years. She is a previous chair of the UK CF Pharmacists’ group and works with NHS England as the CF pharmacist on the respiratory clinical reference group. Amanda joined the CFHealthHub team on secondment in 2019 to lead the medicines optimisation programme, beginning with EMBRACE (Easy Medicines for Reducing Burden and Care Enhancement), a CF Self-Care CQUIN project.

Charlotte Carolan

National CFHealthHub Quality Improvement Programme Manager

Charlotte Carolan has been involved in the development and implementation of the CFHH from the start. Originally her involvement was as CF Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, embedding CFHH into routine care at the Sheffield Adult CF Centre.  Charlotte also provided expert behaviour change interventions for her patients using CFHH whilst also exploring novel ways to deliver this care. This has included the development of an out of hour’s physiotherapy adherence clinic which increased objective adherence data and proved to be extremely favoured by patients.  Charlotte has taken on the role of National CFHH Quality Programme Manager delivering microsystems training to eleven of the data observatory sites and subsequent coaching in order to embed CFHH and aim for systems optimisation across the collaborative. Much of Charlotte’s work has been published and presented to an international forum.

Charlotte is a Senior Project Manager in the Digital Health Software Team at the Centre for Health Informatics at the University of Manchester.  Her role involves overseeing a number of digital health projects covering disease areas including mental health, cancer screening and other long-term health conditions.  She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and successfully completed AgilePM and PRINCE2 both at Practitioner level.  Charlotte has worked in health research for nearly 15 years in a variety of roles and disease areas.

Rosie is a Health Psychology PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University. She is supervised by Professor Madelynne Arden, Dr Jenny Porritt and Dr Martin Wildman, the focus of her PhD is to investigate the relationship between objective nebuliser adherence and the symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis. Rosie has recruited patients from Sheffield, Nottingham and Southampton for her symptom tracking studies.
